It’s an age old feud…mountain bikers think road bikers are wusses and roadies think mtb’ers are uncivilized. The BNB crew has never understood why anyone would trade the beauty and quiet of the woods for a road bike and an ongoing stretch of debris laiden pavement, not to mention the tight clothing that reveals all your junk for the world to see….Dude, I really like you but I don’t want to know you that well…for these reasons we have always been strict mtb’ers, until now.
On June 9 the BNB gang will be mounting their bikes and donning the tight shorts for our first ever road bike event, the Tour de Cure in Knoxville. What could possibly cause all the BNB members to lose their minds at the same time? A good cause.
The Tour de Cure is a series of fundraising cycling events held in 44 states nationwide to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The Tour is a ride, not a race, with routes designed for every skill level and ranging from 10 miles to 100 miles. While Notorious has the most road bike background (something as mtb’ers we all try to overlook) each of the rest of us is embracing this event in our own way…Throttle sprung the big bucks for a new road bike (which he has not yet ridden, not one time), WeeMan is planning to bring his banana seat bike (complete with handlebar basket) and Crash, well she just hopes she doesn’t crash…again.
The BNB Tour Team has been gaining members and collecting donations since March. Our team includes a friend from Men of Action and our Navy Seal participant buddies, the Caudills, from Bristol. To date, we are 11 cyclist strong and have raised almost $2,800 for the cause. The dollars we have raised will fund research, provide services, and give voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes. There is always room for more bikers so If you would like to join our team click here.
Our level of participation has earned BNB a team tent at the Worlds Fair park. Our tent has a luau theme and will serve as a place for us to congregate before and after the ride, complete with “Special Drinks”, lawn chairs, and snacks. If you happen to be in the area Saturday morning drop by and look for our banner. As always, stay tuned for the awesome BNB event video to be coming soon after!
